Two and a half weeks later
Oct. 26th, 2013 10:00 pmMy dad's ashes are now on the mantelpiece, where he wanted them; he was cremated yesterday and mom picked the ashes up from the funeral home this morning. This afternoon we went to a local JASNA event consisting of a lecture at the large farm owned by by a wealthy local member, as well as a look at her horses. We were in her large fancy house, and appropriately enough the lecture topic was about the houses and such Austen had seen in her life and how they influenced the houses in the novels, and my mom liked the lecture. Unfortunately, it was a long trip even before appalling traffic both there and back made it longer. We were able to enjoy being there well enough, but several times mom commented on what would've been different were dad still here.
When we came home, there was a letter of condolences from one of the doctors who had done dad's operation. Mom cursed him to hell; she's turned against all of them now for not telling us about the real danger. She is still trying to master things like watch movies on demand(starting the Before Sunrise trilogy tonight) and Microsoft Word files. We still have not dealt with the latter. As I type this entry, she just barged in to talk randomly. She has noone else to talk to now besides me.
Sent a short message to another guy on OkCupid this evening. I'm starting to feel ready to date again, and I could use a new face to see.
