A little more Austen
Oct. 12th, 2019 10:00 pmWent today to an event held by our local chapter of the Jane Austen Society. There aren't very many of those anymore in the DC area. But there's were a pair of people who help run the museum of the cottage where Austen lived during the last eight years of her life and largely wrote her novels in, and they've been going around talking about it, and today they came to speak to us. We had to go out to Tyson's Corner, getting lost en route and only getting there just in time, but it was an interesting presentation. I've been to the cottage twice in my life, though I only really remember my second visit in 2016, but I learned a lot about its history and restoration that I hadn't know before. We also bought a few new dishes before going home, including a pair of small bowls it should be very good to have.
Also when we got there, mom decided that when we're driving around for the next while, we should listen our way through the recording of Sanditon she happens to have. She's actually managed to watch video of the new miniseries based off Austen's famous unfinished novel, though she hasn't entirely liked it. It's supposed to air on American TV later, but don't know if I'll bother.
