This morning I was actually thinking that Trumpism could ruin everything, including Wimbledon. That was when my morning commute was extended twenty minutes because the first bus went right past me without stopping, even though there were no cars on the curb and no excuse for not seeing me, but I turned off the app radio, rather than pay attention to John Isner. Throughout the ensuing day, as I got my tablet fixed, had to do my third random drug test in the past year and a half (and I don't think I was ever called in before then), and catalogued a bunch of government documents, I followed the scores with varying levels of engagement and trepidation. Mostly I didn't think Kevin Anderson could win too long a match after spending five hours taking Federer down yesterday.
But what do you know, he did. And Rafa Nadal and Novak Djovokic taking the court so late meant I could spend my usual Friday gym hour watching them on the treadmill, listen to the app radio again on the ride home, and I even got there in time to watch the third set tiebreak. It was the better tennis of the day to watch too, for more than one reason. .And while it definitely would've been more proper and respectful to let Serena play her final before they resumed, I'm quite looking forward to watching the extra tennis tomorrow.
Unless Trump manages to ruin that by announcing tomorrow morning we're bombing Britain or something. Though clearly the BBC is hoping not too. For the second year in a row, Sunday will see special Doctor Who material debut!
